Chandrayaan 3 : All you need to know about India's 3rd Lunar Mission
Discover all the facts about India's 3rd Lunar Mission, Chandrayaan-3. Get the latest updates on launch date, objectives, and other details of this ambitious space project
Chandrayaan-3 is the Indian Space Research Organization's third lunar exploration project. It is going to be similar to Chandrayaan-2 because it will feature a lander and a rover but it won't include an orbiter.
Its power module will function similarly to communications relay satellites. It is expected to be launched between July 13th to July 19th.
Let’s have in-depth knowledge about this great mission planned to be launched by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).
Chandrayaan-3 2023
Another Lunar Exploration project, Chandrayaan-3 is going to be launched soon, India is getting one step ahead in their dream of investigating the Moon as a planet. This is exciting news for the Indian people and the ISRO.
How many countries have made Moon landings?
- The following governments and organizations have conducted Lunar missions:the Soviet Union, the United States, Japan, the European Space Agency, China, India, Luxembourg, Israel, Italy, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
- The United States is the only nation that effectively carried out crewed missions to the Moon, the last of which left the lunar surface in December 1972.
Chandrayaan-3 Launch Date & Time
- The Chandrayaan-3 mission is scheduled to launch on July 13th, Thursday this year at 02:30 Pm IST.
- There is a possibility that this launch may take time until July 19th, this year.
Chandrayaan -3 Mission
- Following the failure of Chandrayaan-2's soft arrival effort after an effective orbital entry due to a last-minute software fault affecting the soft landing navigation software, another lunar project was suggested by ISRO.
Chandrayaan -3 Chairman
The launch of Chandrayaan-3 is scheduled for mid-July, according to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somnath.
He said:
"Currently, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is fully integrated."
Chandrayaan -3 Speciality
- Chandrayaan-3 mission objectives are to show safe and soft landings on the Lunar’s (Moon’s) surface, to show Rover traveling on the moon and to carry out scientific experiments outdoors.
Budget of Chandrayaan-3
- The overall money invested in this mission is estimated to be more than INR 615 Crores. The cost to make Chandrayaan-3, as per the scientists is Over INR 75 Crores.
What does Chandrayaan-3 Include?
The Chandrayaan-3 includes Lander, Rover and Orbiter in it.
Launching Vehicle of Chandrayaan-3
- The Launching Vehicle for Chandrayaan-3 is Mark-III (LVM3) system. According to ISRO, the launch system's engine module is going to carry the lander and rover combination up until it reaches a 100-kilometer lunar orbit.
Chandrayaan-3 Landing
- The landing site for the combined Vikram lander and Pragyan rover is going to be the same as for the last mission: near the lunar's south pole at 70 degrees latitude.
What if the Chandrayaan-3 Mission is Successful?
If fruitful, Chandrayaan-3 will be the inaugural attempt to soft land near the moon's south pole.
From where will Chandrayaan-3 take off?
The Chandrayaan-3 will take-off from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, India.
Chandrayaan - 1
- Chandrayaan is an Indian moon exploration mission. Chandrayaan-1 was the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) first lunar space probe, and it discovered water on the Moon.
Was Chandrayaan-1 Successful ?
- On October 22, 2008, it was successfully launched from SDSC SHAR in Sriharikota. This included a lunar and an impactor.
- The spacecraft was circling the Moon at an angle of 100 kilometers above the lunar surface to map the Moon's chemical, mineralogical, and photo-geologic composition. It operated till August 2009.
Chandrayaan - 2
- In August of last year, Chandrayaan 2 produced one of the most significant discoveries.
- ISRO's indigenous sensors found the obvious presence of hydroxyl (OH) in addition to water molecules (H20) on the surface of the moon with the precision of discriminating between the two.
- It included an Orbiter, Lander, and Rover to explore the Moon's undiscovered South Pole.
Was Chandrayaan-2 Successful ?
- The most complicated project launched by India's space agency, ISRO, was Chandrayaan-2.
- Its chairman, K Sivan, who had previously described the final fall as "15 minutes of terror," has recently claimed the operation was "98% successful" based on an official committee's findings.
Conclusion
The Chandrayaan-3 Mission is successfully going to launch between July 13th and July 19th. ISRO is all set to launch this third attempt to observe the Moon.
