3rd Umpire Passing Wrong Decision on Hardik Pandya | He Goes Out

Hardik Pandya, a very famous batsman of India, was dismissed in the First ODI match between India and New Zealand on January 18th, 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad where the decision of the umpire was questioned by the fans who felt it to be mistaken.

On last wednesday, January 18th, the third umpire, KN Ananthapadmanabhan, managed to grab the eyes of multiple cricket fans by giving an out decision against Hardik Pandya, which was a strange dismissal.  

In the 40th over of Indian Innings in the ODI match of India Vs. New Zealand Hardik Pandya tried to cut an incoming angular delivery from the all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, but missed it entirely. The bails came off and Mitchell and his team members started celebrating. 

The Skipper cum wicket-keeper of New Zealand, Tom Latham asked for a review from umpires as he felt that he may have nicked the bails with his gloves. Multiple replays were shown and this was checked in ultra-edge to see if the ball actually had grazed Pandya’s Bat or not. 

The split screen images shown to the empire by TV Crew made it clear that the ball didn’t seem to have grazed the off stump at all. The reason behind the bails was to brighten up & fall was Latham who was standing close to the stumps and  after the ball he grabbed.

The third declared Pandya out and favored New Zealand, as everyone who was present there and watched the replay was stunned by this decision of his. 

Ravi Shahtri, the Head coach and former cricketer of the Indian cricket team also sounded extremely surprised in commentary. He later talked about how the ball had cleared the stumps without lightening up the bails.

Many of Hardik Pandya fans are upset with this and this news is trending on the social media.They criticized the third umpire for announcing the all-rounder out, claiming that the system is flawed because the batter had been clearly not out.

Many cricket fans believed the ball missed the stumps and that the lighted bails were caused by the keeper's gloves. However, the third umpire disagreed and called it out, officially ending Hardik's stay at the crease.

In this similar innings, ust after the 5 deliveries, in the following over by Michael Bracewell, Latham’s gloves touched and took off the bail again. At this time, Shubham Gill(an Indian batsman) was on the strike, who went on to smash his maiden ODI double ton.

Conclusion

Many people could see from TV replays that the ball missed the stumps, and it was clear that the wicket-gloves keeper was touching the stumps because the bails were flashing. People questioned the umpire's decision to dismiss Hardik Pandya from the game. However, following a lengthy review, the third umpire decided to remove Hardik, which angered cricket fans.
