The complete detail and various opinions about this news is given below.
BJP Allegation on Kejriwal
- This allegation was made by BJP on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023. They said that the Aam Aadmi Party government spent around INR 45 Crores in renovation of Delhi’s Chief minister, Arvind kejriwal’s official residence.
- AAP(Aam Aadmi Party), in response to this allegation stated that the house allotted to Kejriwal was in really bad condition before the renovation. It was mandatory to rebuild this house on the basis of recommendations made by the Public Works Department.
- Sambit Patra, BJP Spokesperson attacked the Aam Aadmi Party leader, Kejriwal, for breaking his election pledge to uphold simplicity and honesty. He titled Kejriwal as “Maharaj” and stated that the kings will also bow in front of Kejriwal for his selection of “High-Quality & Expensive” products in his residence and his “greed for convenience with opulence”.
- Sambit Patra, while speaking to reporters, also blamed Kejriwal for offering INR 20 Crores to INR 50 Crores to the Media Channels for not highlighting the story. No News Channel agreed to this and the newspapers also ignored the offer given by Kejriwal.
- As per the documents, the spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sambit Patra claimed that Kejriwal spent money like water on imported marbles, plush interiors and curtains while refurbishing his house in Delhi. He even said that a single curtain was of INR 8 Lakhs.
- Patra referred to the Delhi CM as a "shameless king" at a press conference in reaction to Kejriwal's recent critique of PM Modi, during which he made fun of the senior BJP official by narrating a tale about an emperor.
AAP Defence to CM House Refurbishing
- In defense to this, the AAP party posted videos that showed the decayed condition of the CM’s house before the renovation.
- The Spokesperson of AAP, Priyanks Kakkar shared a tweet and said:
"Rs 80 crore was spent on the 3-hour visit of friend Donald Trump. The Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh take aircraft worth ₹ 200 crore for themselves. No channel has the guts to debate this,"

- She further added:
"Arvind Kejriwal was allotted a bungalow built in 1942, smaller than 1 acre, whose roof fell thrice. Once the roof of his parents' room fell down and once where they held Janata Durbar. The painting/repair of the Lieutenant Governor's bungalow spread over 6 acres is more than the cost of building a house for the Chief Minister of Delhi,"
- As per AAP, Kejriwal's house has been rebuilt based on suggestions made by the Public Works Department immediately following three "serious" incidents.
- This detail of Kejriwal’s AAP party spending this much amount created a fuss everywhere last Tuesday on April 25th, but AAP clarified that it was mandatory to refurbish the house to make it safe for the people living in it.
- The Delhi Government had spent over INR 44.78 Crores in refurbishing this official residence of CM Kejriwal between 2020 and 2022, and this sum was used to purchase high-end appliances for the kitchen, imported marble, luxurious interiors, and plush furnishings.
- By evaluating the expense of the building with the costs of other government houses, the AAP justified the project, claiming that it cost INR 30 crores. The document stated, "The estimate for the Prime Minister's new sprawling house, which spans 36,268 sq ft alone, is INR 467 crores."
- The documents that included the work orders revealed the changes made to the chief minister's residence and office, which are located in Civil Lines: INR 5.43 crore went into electrical, automatic smart lighting and firefighting systems; INR 1.1 Crores on appliances in the kitchen, including an integrated barbecue the charcoal grill; and INR 1 crore on wooden flooring.
- No amount of explanation, stated BJP leader Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, would clarify these costs. "Kejriwal had stated that he would not accept a bungalow, car, security, or luxuries; nonetheless, he received all of these amenities after being elected chief minister. He entered politics on the grounds of simplicity. He attempted to portray himself as a normal guy when taking the oath during his first term (as CM) by traveling to the Metro.
Raghav Chadha, the leader of AAP, told TV channels that:
“the amount should be compared with similar works elsewhere for houses of central ministers, and CMs”
He added:
“PM Modi’s house is being reconstructed and the estimate of the project is ₹500 crore. The PM has spent ₹8,400 crore on buying a new airplane,” .
