Which Sri Lankan Cricketer was Shot Dead?

Dhammika Niroshana, the former Sri Lankan cricketer was recently shot dead by an unknown shooter at his house in Ambalamgoda when he was with his family. This incident happened on the night of 16th July (Tuesday).

He has captained Sri Lanka’s Under-19 cricket team back in 2002. He was never promoted to the senior team during his limited short professional career. 

• As per the local police, he was with his wife and two children when he was shot by an unidentified individual who fired at him. Police are yet to find the suspect and a detailed investigation is taking place. The motive behind this crime is still unclear. 
• A preparatory investigation has revealed that the murderer came with a 12-bore gun. The search for criminals is going on in this case by the local police. 

A Sri Lankan police Spokesperson stated:

“Investigations are underway to arrest the suspect involved in the shooting which seemed to be a result of a gang rivalry." 

Niroshana was a good bowler and he played too well during his short career. He was also seen playing for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club along with Galle Cricket Club. His family, friends, and fans are upset after his death.

Dhammika Niroshana (22nd Feb 1983 - 16th July 2024), popular as Jonty, was the former Sri Lankan Cricketer. His complete name was Hinidumage Dhammika Niroshana. He recently became the talk of the town when he was shot dead at his house on 16th July (Tuesday).

• He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He was murdered at the age of 41.
• He made his debut for the Sri Lanka Under 19 in 2000 while playing a match against Singapore.

The BCCI has announced that the white-ball series matches will start on 27th July (Saturday). In India’s tour to Sri Lanka for the white-ball matches, 3 T20I matches and 3 ODI matches will be played. The series will be finalized by the 7th of August (Wednesday) with an ODI match this year. The Indian National team will reach Sri Lanka on 22nd July (Monday) for this tour. The date of the first match in the ODIs is also changed from 1st August (Thursday) to 2nd August (Friday).
