FIR Against Former  Legendary Cricketers 2024

On July 15th, a police complaint was filed against Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, and Gurkeerat Mann. They have shared a post on Instagram in which they were walking like specially-abled people on the ‘Tauba-Tauba’ Song. The caption of the video mentioned:

 "Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket... Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance. What a SONG."

Who did Complaint against the Former Cricketers 2024?

The Executive Director of the NCPEDP (National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People), Armaan Ali, complained to the SHO (Station House Officer) at Amar Colony Police Station. A police officer shared that the report will be shared with the cyber cell of the district for further investigation into the matter.

Sandhya Devanthan, the vice president & managing director of Meta India, was also targeted through this complaint. This is because she was associated with the platform where the videos were posted. 

In the complaint, Armaan Ali stated:

"This video is a blatant violation of Article 21 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees every person the right to life with dignity.”

He added:

"It also breaches Section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and contravenes the Supreme Court's guidelines established in the case of Nipun Malhotra v. Sony Pictures Films India Private Limited (2004 SCC Online SC 1639)." 

Ali insisted the authorities take the right action against the individuals involved. He said that a simple apology won’t work and "They must be penalized for their actions." 

What Did Others Say About this Matter?

Ravi Chauhan, the head of DCCI (Differently Abled Cricket Council of India), also mentioned that he had a word with Harbhajan Singh regarding this matter and told him how this video is hurting the sentiments of people. He stated:

"I had myself spoken to Bhajji paaji after the video was uploaded and told him about possible consequences. Harbhajan understood the seriousness and kept his promise by deleting the video. I know him and understand that there was no intention to mock any physically challenged person but in this day and age of social media, it would always become a sensitive issue." 

Manasi Joshi, the World Championship Gold-Medalist Para Shuttler, also mentioned:

"You don't know how much harm your behaviour can do and the appreciation you are getting from the people around, it's appalling to see. Wanted more responsibility from stars that you all are, please do not mock at the gait patterns of people with disabilities.”

She further added in her Instagram Story:

"This isn't fully. This reel of yours is going to encourage that it is ok to make fun of the walking patterns of people with disabilities for a few laughs. More young children with disabilities will be bullied by using this reel."

Harbhajan Singh used his Twitter handle on the 15th of July to clarify their intention and said that in the video they were showing how they were feeling after playing continuous matches of the World Championship of Legends 2024. He stated:

"Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of 'Tauba Tauba' on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. We respect every individual and community and this video was just to reflect to our bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days.”

He further mentioned: 

"SORE bodies. We are not trying to insult or offend anyone. Still if people think we have done something wrong. All I can say from my side SORRY to everyone. Please let's stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy."
