Tirupati Laddu Issue: Trust Blaming Lack of Facility

J Syamala Rao, the Executive officer of TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams), stated that the contractors were warned of tough action in case they were found guilty of the supply of low-quality ghee and impure material.

After a long hours lab test, the report confirmed that the Laddoos presented to the devotees of the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh contained Fish oil and Animal fats. 

A four-member manned SIT was formed of the IG Level or above officials by the shrine to check the ghee quality. Mr. Rao on the 19th of September (Thursday) stated that a committee including Dr. Surendranath, Dr. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, Dr. Swarnalatha, and Dr. Mahadevan, the 4 dairy experts was formed. 

  • This group was expected to submit their observations and investigation report within a week. 
  • This group was also responsible for advising on terms of service that should be included for acquiring ghee quality in the proposal

What did J Syamala Rao say about this matter?

At Goluklam Rest House, in a conference meeting, Mr. Rao, the senior bureaucrat stated:

"Ghee suppliers were directed to supply only quality ghee to TTD and one of the companies which was found supplying adulterated ghee as found in the NABL test report, was issued a showcase notice for blacklisting. Another company has also been identified for supplying poor-quality ghee."

He also said that if the ghee suppliers did not follow the terms of service, tough action would be taken against them. He also mentioned the unavailability of the adulteration testing equipment. He stated:

"It is very much needed."

Ghee Report by NDDB CALF

The NDDB CALF, on the 19th of September (Thursday), gave a report. In it, laboratory Animal feed, milk, and milk products were tested, and disclosed that the samples of Ghee used in the Prasadam making of Tirupati Temple, contained palm oil, fish oil, foreign fats, beef tallow, and Lard (Acquired by A Fatty Tissue of a Pig). 

A copy of this report by NDDB CALF was presented to Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy, the spokesperson of the TDP (Telugu Desam Party) ruling.

Political Trouble in the State

There is political trouble occurred in the state after the report by the NDDB CALF was revealed. N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister, accused the prior YSR Congress (YSRCP) government of using inferior-quality ingredients and animals fast in making Tirupati Prasadam, Ladoo.

The YSRCP neglected Naidu’s allegation and stated that the TDP party CM would "stoop to any level for political gain". 

The TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams), which is responsible for managing the respected Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala, announced the creation of a Sensitive Board to judge the quality of the food items to be offered after this huge controversy. 

This controversy alleged the use of inappropriate ingredients in the making of the Prasadam of Tirupati temple in Andra Pradesh. Mr. Rao in a press conference on the 22nd of September (Sunday) stated that this created board will judge the food on its aroma, texture, and taste. 

N Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of the state, stated:\

“An IG level or above officer manned SIT will be formed. It will probe all the reasons, misuse of power and give a report to the government. The government will take stringent action to avoid recurrences (laddu adulteration), there is no compromise." 

Tirupati Temple Purification Ritual

To bring back the holiness of the temple, N Chandrababu Naidu also announced a Tirupati Temple purification ritual. On 23rd September (Monday), the Shanti Homam Panchagavya Prokshana is scheduled at the Bangaru Bavi (A Golden Well) Yagashala in the temple. The CM stated:

"From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., this ritual will be performed to undo the desecration."
