“Gambhir had a virtual interview but Raman’s presentation was very impressive and detailed. The CAC is likely to interview an overseas candidate tomorrow. Gambhir has the edge but Raman’s presentation was very thorough.”

- Jay Shah announced the new Coach will be the one who understands the Indian Cricket at the ground level. He stated:
"Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect. Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks. Our coach must have an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team India to the next level."
- It was reported that BCCI approached Ricky Ponting during the IPL to know about his call to become the Indian Head Coach. He stated:
"...there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it. I'd love to be a senior coach of a national team…”
- A new report stated that BCCI agreed to the demands of Gautam Gambhir as a coach. The demands included:
- Full Command of the Team.
- Separate teams for White and Red Balls.
- On becoming India’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir stated:
“...I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honor than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and more across the globe as well and when you represent India, how can it get bigger than that? It is not me that will help India win the World Cup, it is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless.”
Interview Round One
Round one occurred on June 18th (Tuesday) and a source stated:
"Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. One round of discussions happened today. There is another round expected tomorrow,"
The source further added:
"Raman was interviewed after Gambhir. It was also on Zoom. He also gave his presentation on his vision and road map for Indian cricket. The interview lasted for around 40 minutes. There were some initial questions by the committee before they looked at the presentation."
Head Coach 2024 Interviews Flow on 19th June
- Gambhir and Raman, the only candidates in the race, and BCCI liked Raman’s presentation.
- A report stated that Gambhir asked Jonty Rhodes, the South African coach, to join him as a support staff in the Indian team.
- Gambhir is all set to replace Rahul Dravid, the present head coach of the Indian cricket team. This is yet to be officially announced by BCCI but the Indian Women’s team coach will not be the Indian Men’s team coach. His final announcement is expected to be made by the end of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024.
- If Gambhir becomes the Head Coach, major changes in the team can be expected.
- CV Raman praised Gambhir and stated in an interview:
"I've always rated Gautam Gambhir as one of the best captains in the IPL. He's always been intense and tactically sound. His success comes purely from his efforts. He is committed to cricket and does not try to conform to others' expectations. If he takes up the India role, I wish him all the very best."
- It was made clear that Jonty Rhodes was approached by the BCCI and not Gambhir personally. Under Gambhir and Rhodes's Guidance, the LSG franchise of the IPL reached the playoffs twice.
