The Orange Cap is an individual award given to the leading run-scorer of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a particular season. The player who scores the most runs in the tournament during the course of the season is presented with the Orange Cap, which is a symbolic representation of his achievement.
Just like the Purple Cap, the Orange Cap is passed from one player to another throughout the tournament, based on the number of runs scored by each player. The player who finishes the tournament with the most runs, irrespective of the team he plays for, wins the Orange Cap.
The Orange Cap was introduced in the second season of the IPL in 2009, and it has been a regular feature of the tournament ever since.
