Sri Lanka Announce Squad For T20I Series Against India, Assign New Captain

After India, Sri Lanka has also announced its final squad on 23rd July (Tuesday) for the T20I series for India’s tour to Sri Lanka T20I format. Charith Asalanka will be the team's new skipper after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down from the position.

Sri Lanka Squad List for India’s Tour to Sri Lanka in July-August 2024 Updated

SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket), on 23rd July (Tuesday), officially announced the team players of the Sri Lanka team for the 3 T20I matches against India. These T20I matches are scheduled to start on July 27th (Saturday) and may end by July 30th (Tuesday). After this, the India and Sri Lanka teams will play the ODI matches of this tour from August 2nd (Friday) to August 7th  (Wednesday). 

Who will be the New Captain of Sri Lanka for the T20I Match against India?

The SLC has announced that Charith Asalanka will be the team's new skipper after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down from the position at the start of July. Asalanka is a batting all-rounder and led the Jaffna Kings franchise to its 4th Lanka Premier League Title. 

Sri Lanka has made these major changes after the T20 World Cup 2024 in which Sri Lanka didn’t perform that well. The captain has been changed for the T20I matches in July 2024.

The Sri Lanka Cricket statement mentioned:

"The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee selected the below-given 16-member squad to play in the T20I series during the India Tour of Sri Lanka 2024. The Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando, approved the squad. The T20I games will be played on the 27th, 28th, and 30th July at the PICS, Pallekele."

Sri Lanka is all set to host India in the upcoming white-ball series in July-August 2024. The squad announced that the SLC organization for India’s July-August 2024 tour to Sri Lanka T20I matches includes the following players:

Charith Asalanka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Janith Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Dushmantha Chameera, and Binura Fernando.

Stadiums of Sri Lanka in which India will play T20Is in July-August 2024 Series?

Two major stadiums of Sri Lanka were opted in which India’s tour to Sri Lanka T20I and ODI matches will be played. The T20I matches are scheduled at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. After this, the ODI matches of this same series will occur at the R Premadasa International Stadium.
