World Cup Cricket Qualifiers 2023

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5 (Tentatively) with the defending champions England playing against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, as per the BCCI's current timetable.

Who Will Play the Cricket World Cup 2023?

A total of 10 teams have to participate initially in this tournament. 8 of them are confirmed and they are:

 

  • New Zealand
  • England
  • India (Host 2023)
  • Bangladesh
  • Pakistan
  • Australia
  • Afghanistan
  • South Africa

Two positions are empty in the world cup yet. Qualifying round will decide these two teams. ICC announced the 2023 World Cup Qualifier Schedule. World Cup Qualifiers will be played in Zimbabwe between June 18 to July 9th.

2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe

A total of ten teams will participate in the World Cup Qualifier 2023 and out of them top 2 will join the final list of 10 teams that will partake in the CWC 2023 tournament. 

 

Group A: West Indies (2 Time World Cup Winner), Zimbabwe, Netherlands, Nepal, USA

Group B: Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, UAE.

 

  • All teams in Group A will compete against all other Group A teams and the top 3 teams (A1, A2 & A3) will qualify for super six. 
  • Similarly, All teams in Group B will compete against all other Group B teams and the top 3 teams  (B1, B2 & B3)  will qualify for super six.

 

In Super Six, Group A teams will compete against Group B and vice versa.

After this it will be decided which of the two teams will play the finals. 

World Cup Qualifier Super Six

The World Cup Qualifier is vital to all the ten teams participating in it as it will decide their fate. To join the other 8 teams in the 2023 World Cup Tournament, these teams have to give their best individually. 

 

What does the CWC qualifying "Super Six" format mean? 

  • In the Qualifier of World Cup 2023, the ten teams partake who are divided in two Groups - A & B (5 Teams Each). These teams play a Round-Robin Series within their own group. 
  • The top 3 teams of each group qualified to the next level - the CWC Qualifier Super Six stage. As a result, three teams from Group A will play three teams from Group B.
  • The top two teams will then confirm their spots in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 at the conclusion of the Super Six stage. Additionally, on July 9, these two teams will compete against one another in the CWC Qualifier Final.

 

Rules to Know

  • In order to move beyond their first group during this phase, these teams will additionally carry over their points from the two matches against the opposing teams. 
  • It's essential to keep in mind that points scored in games against teams who also advance to the Super Six are counted towards the next phase of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.  
  • The net run rate from these games against opposing teams to advance from the group also gets carried over to the Super Six stage along with the points. 

2023 World Cup Qualifier Latest Update

After the conclusion of June 25th Group B matches, the current standing of each of the five teams in Group B has also been confirmed.

 

Group A

  • Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and West Indies have already advanced to the Super Six stage in Group A. 
  • These three countries still have a game to play; on June 26, Zimbabwe will play the United States, and on June 26, West Indies will play the Netherlands in a game that is essential for securing points for moving on to the next round. 
  • The United States and Nepal have been eliminated from group A.

 

Group B

  • Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Oman have now advanced to the Super Six stage in Group B. 
  • With three victories each in their first three games, however, on June 27, these two sides will square off in a key match that will determine which team will advance to the Super Six stage with two more vital points.
  • Ireland and the UAE were both eliminated from group B. 

 

ICC CWC Qualifier Super Six Schedule 

  • The round-robin stage will end on June 27, and the Super Six matches will begin on June 29 following a day off. 
  • The Super Six stage features a total of nine matches, with each team competing against the remaining teams in the opposing group.

    The Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifying Finals will be held at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 9 at 12:30 PM.
