How do the Super 8 teams are Divided Into Groups?

The top teams from 20 partaking squads who ended first or second in their groups in the Group Stage of T20 World Cup 2024, have confirmed their place in the Super 8 Round. Now, for the very first time, ICC (International Cricket Council) has applied the Pre-Seeding system in the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024. 

What is ICC's Pre-Seeding Rules and Regulations? 

The ICC’s Pre-Seeding Rule is a new system added to the tournament introduced by ICC, the governing body of this cricket event. The new system helps the teams in getting an idea about which other three teams they may face in the Super 8 stage of ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024. This will only occur if the team has ended at top two in the group stages before Super 8 Stage. 

Now, the two groups of the Super 8 are decided on the basis of the Pre-Tournament Seedings assigned to the squads of all four groups in the prior stage. If the team fails to reach the Super 8 stage, the next top team automatically takes the seedings. 

The most appropriate example would be Australia Taking A2 seed as team Pakistan was unable to make it to the next stage which is Super 8.

The teams for the Super 8 stage are confirmed for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024. We have specified the Team Lists and Group divisions of these 8 squads along with the reason for keeping team Australia and team India in one group despite the fact Australia is the second team to qualify the group stage by being in group B.

In the Super 8 stage, the 8 teams are divided into two groupd: Group 1 & Group 2. 

• The Group 1 has the teams which ended second in the Groups B & D (B2,D2) and first in Group A & C (A1,C1). 
• The Group 2 has the teams which ended second in the Groups A & C (A2,C2) and first in Group B & D (B1,D1).

• D1 - South Africa
• D2 - Sri Lanka

As Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, were not going ahead in this tournament, they were replaced by the next top team from the group.
