List of Players who are unsold in TATA IPL Auction 2023

Players who are unsold in IPL 2023?

IPL 2023 auction: Some players were left unsold during Friday's mini-auction ahead of the 2023 IPL season, much to the disappointment of fans and cricketers alike.

At Friday's mini-auction for the 2023 IPL season, up to 80 players were sold for a total of Rs. 1.67 crore among the 10 franchises. However, a number of players did not find buyers for a variety of reasons, including team cohesion, remaining spaces for foreign/local players, or simply poor performance leading up to the auction.

We look at the top five players( 3 are foreigner and 2 are indian)  who did not get a chance to play in IPL 2023 and why.

Foreign player being unsold in IPL 2023

Dawid Malan, England - Batsman

Dawid Malan's rejection from the IPL season is likely one of the auction's biggest upsets. The left-handed batter was formerly ranked first in the ICC T20i rankings and is a staple in England's top order.

He also led England's "Hundred" competition, scoring 377 runs in 9 innings at a Strike Rate of 166.81. He was also a member of England's victorious T20 World Cup side, however he only played a minor role in the competition.

That could be one of the reasons he went unsold, along with the fact that clubs preferred foreign allrounders over specialized batters.

Paul Stirling, Ireland - Batsman

Paul Stirling, an experienced Irish batsman, failed to draw any offers in the auction. Despite competing in the world's main T20 competitions, no IPL franchise took a chance on the hefty opener. This could be because he has been out of form in 2022, as evidenced by Ireland's T20 World Cup performance.

Despite being the team's second-highest scorer in seven games, he was anticipated to score more than the 170 runs he did in the tournament.

Moreover, as previously said, franchisees were looking locally for specialist batsmen. Stirling has missed out on a golden opportunity in the IPL.

Chris Jordan, England - Allrounder

Despite having the profile of a player in high demand in the auction, the former CSK allrounder received no bids. Jordan was a member of England's World Cup-winning T20 squad and bowled brilliantly at the death for his team.

His absence is surprising given that he is the quintessential T20 player. He is an agile bowler who takes excellent catches and can also bat in the bottom order.

CSK, who released him after only four appearances in the 2022 season, picking up two wickets, could have taken a chance on him because the franchise is short on death bowling alternatives.

Indian player being unsold in IPL 2023

Baba Indrajith, India - Wicketkeeper

Indrajith had bad luck at the worst possible time, as 12 wicket keepers were sold in the auction, seven of whom were Indian, and he missed out on an IPL contract. The TN top-order batsman has a great batting technique and has scored heavily for TN in first-class and List-A cricket over the last several years.

However, he appeared only three times for KKR last season, scoring only 21 runs, and was discharged at the end of the season.

Sandeep Sharma, India -Bowler

Sandeep Sharma, a veteran bowler, was disappointed when he did not sell in the auction. With 104 IPL appearances under his belt, the former SRH seamer was taken aback by the omission. "I'm astonished and disappointed," he was quoted as saying. I'm not sure why I didn't sell. I'd done well for whichever squad I'd played for, and I honestly believed that some team would make an offer for me. To be honest, I had not anticipated this. I'm not even sure what went wrong. I've been doing well in domestic cricket. I grabbed seven wickets in the last round of the Ranji Trophy. "I performed admirably in Syed Mushtaq Ali."

There may be some hope for the 29-year-old since he might still play in the 2019 IPL season as a replacement for an injured player.
