IPL Auction 2023 Highlights: Three players broke the IPL all-time bidding record at the IPL mini auction in Kochi. Nicholas Pooran was also expensive, with Lucknow paying Rs 16 crore for him following a bidding war with Delhi Capitals.
Meanwhile, former Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was sold to the Gujarat Titans, while Sunrisers Hyderabad, who began the day with the greatest purse among the franchises, signed Harry Brook for a whopping 13.25 crore and former Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal for 8.25 crores.
The only bidder for out-of-favor India batsman Ajinkya Rahane was Chennai Super Kings, who paid his base fee of Rs 50 lakh. Shakib-Al-Hasan, a Bangladesh all-rounder, joined KKR. Jason Holder, a West Indies all-rounder, was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.75 crore.
Top 10 Highlights of Ipl 2023 Auction
Sam Curran is glad to be joining the Punjab Kings.
"I didn't sleep much last night, was a bit excited, and worried about how the auction was going to go," Sam Curran remarked on Star Sports' 'Cricket Live - Auction Special. But, yeah, I'm completely overwhelmed and humbled that I got what I did. I had no expectation of receiving that. Going back to where it all started for me, I made my IPL debut with Punjab four years ago. So, returning there seems amazing, and I'm looking forward to meeting up with a few English teammates as well."
Cameron Green shares his time with the Mumbai Indians.
Cameron Green remarked exclusively on Star Sports' 'Cricket Live - Auction Special,' "Obviously, I'm pinching myself. I think that joining such a fantastic team in Mumbai, we obviously have such a history, all the prior players that have played for them, and how great they are, and how excellent the squad is at the moment, is a tremendous opportunity. I believe you can look through all the guys who have played with them, including Rohit, Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, to mention a few.Yeah, Tim David and Jason Behrendorff are both from Australia, so I'm quite happy. We have so much talent that you can pick up tips from them and better your own game. I had a great time in India for two weeks back then, so I'm excited to return and play for the Mumbai Indians."
Live IPL Auction: KKR acquires Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan is the next player to be SOLD to KKR for INR 1.5 million, while Joe Root is SOLD to Rajasthan Royals for INR 1 million. Wayne Parnell and Ekant Sen, on the other hand, remain unsold. And with that, the IPL Mini Auction concludes. After six hours, it certainly did not appear to be a little one.
Curran, Green, and Stokes strike gold as IPL franchises seek all-rounders in a mini-auction.
Sam Curran is valued at Rs 18.25 crore. Cameron Green is valued at Rs 17.50 crore. Ben Stokes is valued at Rs 16.25 crore.
When it comes to premier all-rounders, Indian Premier League franchises have always been liberal with their investment. It comes as no surprise that the ceiling keeps rising with each sale, and the situation was no different at the mini-auction held before the IPL 2023 in Kochi.
In fact, the top three purchases were the most expensive in IPL history, surpassing the Rs 16.25 crore paid by the Rajasthan Royals for South African Chris Morris in 2021. The only surprise was how the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings - two teams with purses of Rs 20.55 crore and Rs 20.45 crore, respectively - gambled on Green and Stokes. Punjab Kings, with a bank balance of Rs 32.20 crore, were always going to have an advantage.

IPL Auction Live: Best Buys in Chennai and Michigan consider the future
Chennai Super Kings management, known for its practicality and caution, pulled off a coup by acquiring England Test captain and world's best all-rounder Ben Stokes in what appears to be a leadership succession plan if and when Mahendra Singh Dhoni decides to retire. The Mumbai Indians, a team in transition over the last two years with some perplexing purchases in the super auction last season, chose to invest in Stokes' skill-set heir apparent Cameron Green. Sunrisers Hyderabad have added Harry Brooks to their squad, but what they really needed was a bowling line-up stabilizer

Every auction contains a few surprises. Yes, all-rounders and multi-utility players who are considered as X-factors tend to benefit, but none of this is guaranteed.
