Who Will Be Next Captain Of Delhi Team In IPL 2023 In Rishabh Pant Absence

Delhi Capitals is expecting David Warner as a replacement of Rishabh Pant at the position of the Captain of the team. Rishabh is taking time in recovering from his injuries, and it is confirmed by Saurabh Ganguly that Pant is not going to be a part of the IPL 2023 league. 

Delhi Capital’s management is considering David Warner as a replacement for Rishabh Pant’s position. The team is expecting a wicketkeeper. There are chances for Sarfaraz Khan to hold the captain’s position of Delhi Capitals in 2023.

Delhi Capitals mull David Warner for captaincy

The news of Rishabh Pant’s accident is familiar to all and Saurav Ganguly has confirmed about his absence in IPL 2023 due to his unrecovered injuries. The next question that is hitting the mind of all the cricket followers is who is going to lead the Delhi Capitals team in the absence of Pant who is the WicketKeeper, Batter and Captain of the team.

David was not previously considered as an option for the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in the absence of Rishabh Pant in the tournament. As per the initial report, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull & Phil Salt were the options to replace the position of Rishabh in the team after his major accident.  

Why David Warner as a Captain?

At present, David Warner is the best option for the Captaincy of Delhi capitals IPL 2023 team as per the choice of Delhi Capital’s management. Ganguly has confirmed that a break is given to Rishabh Pant to recover, and Pant is not going to be part of IPL 2023.

A source told Times of India that:

"Pant has been the mainstay of the middle-order. Warner has the experience of leading IPL teams. The management will speak to him. The middle-order needs an impactful Indian batter now. Sarfaraz will be asked to keep wickets if the combination asks for it. Meanwhile, the team will be looking for a domestic wicket keeper or a strong batter," on Wednesday.

David Warner has more experience in taking forward any IPL team than the teams in the competition.

Conclusion About the Captaincy of David Warner

As per the management of the Delhi Capital’s team, they are just waiting for  a final confirmation from the BCCI. As soon as the Pant will be ruled out DC will start formalities for Warner to be appointed as a captain.

Warner has led Sun Risers Hyderabad to maiden IPL Title(2016). Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Delhi Capitals may help him though.
