IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan to Join KL Rahul's Lucknow Super Giants as Mentor

Zaheer Khan to Mentor LSG in the IPL 2025

Zaheer Khan is confirmed as the mentor of Lucknow SuperGiants in the IPL 2025. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the LSG franchise also confirmed that KL Rahul, the skipper of this franchise, is an integral part of the team and was rumored to be removed from the next edition of the tournament. 

During the press conference, Zaheer Khan was confirmed as the LSG’s new mentor by Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the franchise. Goenka also clarified that the rumors of KL Rahul leaving the team were false. He stated:

“I have been meeting KL on and off regularly over the last three years. I am surprised this meeting is getting a lot of attention. He is integral. He has been here since the inception. For me personally and for [my son] Shashwat [Goenka, who is also involved in running LSG], he is like family."

Zaheer Khan to Mentor LSG in the Next IPL

Zaheer Khan, the former Indian Cricketer, was named as the mentor for LSG for IPL 2025. He is all set to replace Gautam Gambhir, who stepped down as LSG mentor in 2023. He mentored KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) in the last season and led the team to win the trophy of IPL 2024.

The Indian Pacer, Zaheer Khan, while talking in the Press Conference, highlighted that his part in LSG will give the best to support the team in each way possible. He also talked about the team’s progress in the past 3 years and compared it with the past. He stated:

"It is a team game, so I will be serving the team in every capacity possible, and yes, it includes bowling. If I am there in the set-up, does the team need another bowling coach? When you see LSG, their journey is only three years but they are comparable to the teams who have played the IPL for 17-18 years. The building blocks are in place and we need to take them forward. Decision-making will be something we'll work on since it is something that can differentiate teams." 

He further added:

“The consistency you see in reaching the playoffs is something which is so tough in this fierce competition. That is something which gives me a lot of confidence when I’m looking at coming and contributing to this franchise’s success. I’ll make sure a process which is required for each and every individual to express themselves freely, to bring a lot of victories to the franchise and the decision making which is so crucial. I think those are the aspects which we’ll be closely looking at. I’m looking to build that culture, that mindset at LSG to (help it) go to the next level.”

Sanjiv Goenka, in the press conference, also mentioned:

“We are very excited to have him on board. We do believe he will do wonders for the future of LSG.” 

He also confirmed that Justin Langer (Coach), Lance Klusener (Assistant Coach) & Jonty Rhodes (Fielding Coach) will continue with the team.

Sanjiv Goenka’s Animated Chat with KL Rahul 2024

On 8th May this year, Sanjiv Goenka came into the limelight after an animated chat of him with KL Rahul was shared in public. After the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Lucknow SuperGiants by 10 wickets, this chat showed KL Rahul was recognized as a public dressing-down of the captain.
