On the 27th of July (Saturday), Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Event at the Paris Olympics 2024. She registered her name in history as she became the first-ever woman to win an Olympic shooting medal. 

Bhaker’s medal was India’s 5th Olympic medal in shooting and the very first in any sport in the Paris Olympics 2024. India has won the medals in shooting at 3 consecutive Olympics from Athens 2004 to London 2012.

Manu Bhaker, the 22-year-old Olympian player from India, has scored 221.7 and finished third. Oh Ye Jin from the Republic of Korea bagged the gold medal with a 243.2 score. Yeji Kim followed her and won a silver medal with a 241.3 score.

Bhaker gave her best initially to reach and win the final round but later slipped to the third position behind Jin and Kim.

“I just put all my effort into staying in the moment until the last second, just not giving up and keep trying harder and harder,"

She further added:

"You have to hold yourself together, because that’s what all the hard work is for. Although the competition was neck-and-neck and I lost silver by .1, I’m still very grateful to win bronze for my country.”

In the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Bhaker was in flow to make it to the finals but her 6 minutes went to waste due to a pistol malfunction. She fell just 2 points short.
