T20 Word Cup 2024 Latest News

Cricket fans are highly disheartened due to the poor organization of the USA while working as the host country for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup, an international cricket tournament.

Cricket's attempt to break into a new ground might easily result in shattering the expectations of the fans of the sport in the country if planning and organization do not match ambition.

What did Rohit Sharma say about the USA ground in the T20 World Cup 2024?

Rohit wasn’t sure about the pitch in the USA for the Pakistan encounter following the win over Ireland. After the last previous match of India against Ireland on 5th June (Wednesday), Rohit Sharma stated:

“It’s a new ground, a new venue, with a drop-in pitch. We weren’t aware of what it would be like to play on a pitch that’s just five months old. It was all about getting used to the conditions… I don’t think the wicket settled down even when we batted second.”

This group stage match of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024 was won by team India by 8 wickets.

Michael Vaughan, former England captain, mentioned:

“Trying to sell the game in the states is great… love it… but for players to have to play on this sub-standard surface in New York is unacceptable…You work so hard to make it to the WC then have to play on this.”

Wasim Jaffer sarcastically shared his views and said:

“This is an excellent pitch, provided the idea was selling Test cricket to the Americans.”

Virendra Sehwag, an Indian former cricketer, questioned the logic of declaring to provide entertainment but generating boring wickets. He stated:

“If you want to take cricket to America, you should do it in such a way that the Americans who come to watch the game are entertained. If these are wickets brought from Adelaide, they should behave like one from Adelaide, where 300 runs are scored in ODIs. This is not the case here.”

Nasser Hussain, English Cricket commentator and former skipper of England mentioned:

"That pitch looks substandard for a T20 World Cup at the moment. Even the outfield looks a bit ropey. They haven't just got to get it right for India vs Pakistan, they have to get it right for every game. No game is more important than any other. Maybe it will get better in time."

Nobody is satisfied with the quality of the stadium in New York in the last match between India and Ireland. Some believed it was a planned smart trick by the USA to choose an inappropriate ground.

ICC on New York Pitch

The International Cricket Council has also recognized that the pitches and grounds used in the T20 World Cup site in New York were poor, and the ground staff are working to "remedy" the surfaces. The ICC stated:

"The ICC recognizes that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted.”

ICC added:

“The world-class grounds team has been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches”.

USA Cricket Grounds for T20 World Cup 2024

When USA Cricket was allowed to co-host the T20 World Cup, they planned to turn part of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx into a cricket stadium. It was a pointless plan because the residents were against the idea of cricket matches in their park.

Winter had arrived when an alternative, Eisenhower Park, was established at the end of last year. Later in March redevelopment begin at the stadium's current location. Setting up the outfield and pitching wasn’t so simple.
