Who is Amrit Pal Singh?

Amritpal Singh Sandhu, born on January 17th, 1993 is a self-identified Sikh preacher and a Radical Indian Khalistani Separatist. He lived in Dubai for a long span of a decade and came back to Punjab in September last year. He was disputably opted as the leader of the Waris Punjab De (Heirs of Punjab). He started an operation to encourage young people to stay away from Drugs, Adopt traditionalist form of Sikhism &  campaigned for a self-governing Sikh state.

• The Khalistan movement is a separatist movement which aims to establish an traditionally religious Independent state called Khalistan in the Punjab region in order to serve as a homeland for Sikhs.
• Jagjit Singh Chohan was the founder of Khalistan and the ‘Waris Punjab De’ group is supporting this movement, which was founded by Deep Sidhu and now is under the leadership of Amritpal Singh.
• The sources of the Indian Intelligence agency claimed that  Sandhu has been connected with the Inter-Services Intelligence(ISI). They also said that he has been stocking up on weapons while establishing a private militia known as Anandpur Khalsa Fauj (AKF).
• In March 2023, the state government started a strong investigation against Sandhu and the others who favored him along with the central government. On April 23rd, 2023, he was captured.

• Amritpal Singh, the pro-Khalistani, got arrested on April 23rd by SSP Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh on last Sunday, Morning Time.
• Amritpal Singh has been running from police after he was declared a ‘Escapee’ on March 18th. From this day onwards,the Punjab police were in  search of him.
• This arrest took place in Moga Punjab. Amritpal Singh has been shifted to Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail where the other members of this group are already kept.

• Amritpal Singh grew up as a local of Jallupur Khera in the Amritsar District of Punjab. He was the youngest child of Balwinder Kaur(Mother) and Tarsem Singh(Father). His family is said to be very religious and followers of Sikhism.
• This village was the ancestral village of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was a slain Khalistani Idealogue. The emergence of Amritpal was called the arrival of Bhindranwale 2.0.
• Harjit Singh Sandhu, Uncle of Amritpal Singh, was the sarpanch for a decade before shifting to the UK. Balwinder Kaur, declared that the young man surrendered as a "warrior."
• On February 10th, 2023, Amritpal Singh got married to Kirandeep Kaur, who is a native of Jalandhar District and was living in the UK. With his wife’s return to Punjab, Amritpal said that it is a message for all the Punjabis to return back to Punjab and settle here.

• As Amritpal Singh is an Indian Activist, and became the second leader of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization that was established by Deep Sidhu. The aim of this 2022 established group was to fight for justice & secure the  rights, culture and tradition of Punjab.
• Amritpal Singh, was appointed as the Chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ after the death of Deep Sidhu, who was an Indian Actor, Activist and a barrister by profession, in a car accident.
• Amritpal Singh, who just returned from Dubai after a Decade has gathered a surprising following among the young individuals of Punjab. His blunt remarks on Khalistan, and his call for an independent Sikh state, has worried outsiders.

The Khalistan is basically a separatist Sikh movement aiming for the creation of a Sikh nation within the state of Punjab. 

Various groups suggest various boundaries for Khalistan:

• Some people propose the whole Indian state of Punjab. 
• Larger group claimed that Pakistani Punjab along with other portions of North India, such as Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh are included in it.

Shimla and Lahore were both mentioned as Khalistan's capital.

Reason why Amrit Pal Arrested!

• According to the intelligence officials, Amritpal Singh was acquiring weapons from Pakistan via the spy organization Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and attempting to divide Punjab along religious lines.
• Amritpal Singh has been accused of encouraging "gun culture" amongst young people. He and his friends have been charged with promoting division among classes, trying to commit murder, assaulting police officers, and impeding the proper satisfaction of public employees duties.

Due to all these charges and as the government officials found him guilty, Amritpal got arrested.
