The expectations were high as he succeeded Ben Stokes as the England captain at the initiation of the Sri Lanka series. 

He only scored 30 runs in the past 4 innings and yesterday, he returned to his style on the Oval Home Ground for the team. He made his 7th century in Test Cricket and all of his 7 centuries were made against different opposite teams - This happened for the first time in the 147-year history of Test Cricket.

It was the 1st hundred as England’s captain on the third test against Sri Lanka. By the end of the day, Ollie Pope was at 103 not out with his team making 221-3.
