The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is scheduled to begin on February 9, 2023. The tournament will feature several overseas players from different countries. All six teams participating in the PSL announced their retained players in November 2022.

The PSL draft was then held on December 15, 2022, where teams were able to select additional players to complete their squads. A draft to replace unavailable players was held on January 25, 2023, allowing teams to make last-minute adjustments to their rosters.

Each team participating in the PSL is allowed to have a maximum of 20 players in their squad, with seven overseas players. Prior to the tournament, all franchises except Peshawar Zalmi had retained eight players each. The teams participating in the PSL will be looking to field strong lineups that can lead them to victory in the highly competitive tournament.

 What is PSL ?

what is PSL

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league comprising six teams representing different cities of Pakistan. The league was founded in 2015 by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with five teams, and has since then become a major sporting event in the country.

Unlike other cricket leagues, the PSL operates as a single entity with each franchise being owned and controlled by investors. The league follows a double round robin format where each team plays group stage matches against the other teams twice. The top four teams with the most points qualify for the playoffs, which culminates in the final match.

The PSL is headquartered in Lahore and has successfully completed eight seasons. Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars are the most successful teams, having won the title twice. The current champions of the league are Lahore Qalandars, who won the 2023 season, becoming the first team to defend their title successfully after their win in the 2022 season.

The league has become a significant platform for Pakistani cricketers to showcase their skills and has attracted international players from around the world. The PSL has contributed to the growth of cricket in Pakistan and has created a significant impact on the country's sporting culture.

Why Indian Cricket team never a part of PSL

The reasons behind this policy are often not very clear, and the BCCI has been criticised for its lack of transparency on this issue. However, it is believed that the BCCI wants to protect the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the premier T20 league and ensure that Indian players are available for domestic and international matches.

Despite this policy, some Indian players have been able to participate in these leagues in the past, either through retirement or by taking a break from the national team. However, such cases are rare, and most Indian players are not able to participate in these leagues due to the BCCI's strict policy.

It is important to note that the policies and regulations of each cricket board may differ, and therefore, it may not be possible for players from one country to play in another country's league.

Not even in PSL Indian players are not allowed to participate in various T20 leagues such as the Big Bash, SPL, BPL, CPL, South African T20 League, and English T20 League. This is primarily due to the policies of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which does not issue No Objection Certificates (NOC) to Indian players for participating in these leagues.
