  • ICC (International Cricket Council), cricket's global governing authority, has declared the timetable of the ICC Women’s T-20 World Cup. 
  • The hosts for this eighth edition, South Africa and it will begin on February 10th.
  • The cities that will host the matches are : Gqebehra, Paarl & Cape Town, with the Knock out match scheduled in Cape Town.
  • On February 26th, the final match is expected with a substitution day February 27th at hand in the event if there are long delays in the planned game.
  • At a truly African affair hosted at Cape Town's Newlands Cricket Ground and with ICC Ambassador Mithali Raj as a guest, the grand final schedule was revealed.

ICC initially inaugurated Women’s Future Tours Program and 10 Teams are divided in two groups:

  • First Group:  Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka.
  • Second Group: England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, West Indies.

Women’s T20 World Cup: India vs. Australia Final – Australians Defend Victory

  • Australian Women’s Cricket team- Five times winners and defending champions.
  • They are grouped alongside rival New Zealand & South Africa (Host) in the first group for this championship.
  • Other members of First group- Sri Lanka & Bangladesh( This team recently won the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 final ).
  • Ireland joined England, India, West Indies and Pakistan in Group 2.

 

Women’s T20 World Cup: About the Group Games

  • Till February 21st, in the group games, each of the teams will have a match with the other four teams in their own group once. 
  • The end of the group stage is played by the top two teams of each group.
  • The tickets are out for this 15 days tournament and fans can buy it from the official website.

 

ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said:

“We are thrilled to be announcing the match schedule for the next ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as we look to build on the success of Australia 2020 and host a uniquely African celebration of cricket.”

Allardice further added:  - “As a key strategic priority for the sport, women’s cricket continues to build momentum and engage more fans than ever before. With T20 as the growth vehicle for cricket we are confident that this event and the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup preceding the senior event will leave a lasting legacy to grow girls and women’s cricket around the world.” The ICC Ambassador & Former India captain Mithali Raj, said she was delighted that South Africa will be hosting the event. “The announcement of the schedule takes us one step closer to the Women’s T20 World Cup. This has been a fantastic period for the growth of the women’s game, and I am sure fans in South Africa will be out in huge numbers to support the players.”

She Added: - “I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in ICC tournaments over the years and know what they mean to players globally. I can’t wait to watch some fast-paced, high-energy cricket and closely-fought, exciting matches.”

Cricket South Africa Chief Executive, Pholetsi Moseki, said:

“South Africa is eagerly awaiting the opening match against Sri Lanka, which will prove our competitiveness on the field of play. It will also mark an historic occasion of South Africa hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and a first-ever chance for our fans to experience the attractive blend of women’s cricket that will be beamed across the globe.”

He added: - “This happens at the time that the appetite for women’s cricket, as a distinct brand, is gaining traction amongst the fans. We have sliced the prices of tickets to allow all the fans the opportunity to attend stadiums and join in the excitement, which will confirm that women’s cricket is open for business,” concluded Moseki.
