Indian Players Made History in Paris Paralympics 2024

On 2nd September (Monday), Indian players achieved a record of 8 medals from the Paris Paralympics 2024. Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar have won Gold as athletes and earned the biggest medals out of those 8.

Sumit Antil, the defending and world champion bagged the gold medal in the Javelin throw F64 category and broke his Paralympic record of 68.55 m that he made in the Tokyo Paralympics 2021. 

He won a gold in Paris and threw the Javelin of 70.59 m. He also registered attempts of 69.04 m and 69.11 m. 

Nitesh Kumar Paris Paralympics Gold

Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal by defeating Daniel Bethell from Great Britain with 21-14, 18-21, and 23-21 ratio in the Men’s singles SL3 Para-Badminton Final at the La Chapelle Arena Court 1. Kumar won for the first time from Bethell in 6 attempts. 

Yogesh Kathuniya Paris Paralympics Silver

Yogesh Kathuniya won the silver medal for the Indian side in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 Event. This was his second event after the Tokyo Paralympics 2021. He is a 27-year-old player who won silver with a 42.22 m, season’s best through.

Para-Badminton Paris Paralympics Silver

Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi Murugesan won one silver each in the Para-Badminton of the Paris Olympics for the Indian side. Suhas Yathiraj lost his men’s singles SL4 finals and Thulasimathi Murugesan lost the women’s singles SU5 finals. 

Bronze in the Paris Paralympics 2024 for India

Manisha Ramadass won a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles SU5 event, whereas, Nithya Sre bagged a bronze medal in the women’s singles SH6 category. 

Sheetal Devi, the armless archer, won a bronze medal in a mixed-team compound open event along with Rakesh Kumar. They defeated Eleonora Sarti and Mattero Bonacina from Italy with a 156-155 ratio. 

Sheetal Devi became an inspiration for the nation cause of her hard work, determination, and self-belief. Even all the Indian medal winners did amazing in the Paris Paralympics this year.
