  • Mr.Narendra Modi, the Prime minister of India has released a unique Rs. 75 Coin in honor of the new parliament building on May 28th, Sunday. 

  • This event of launching the new coin was held at the Lok Sabha Chamber at the inauguration of this new building. 

  • The weight of this coin is around 35 gm as per the Department of Economic Affairs under the Union Ministry of Finance’s official notification.

  • This coin is not for general usage and a total of 150 coins of Rs 75 are produced by the Indian government in order to honor the brand new Parliament house constructed in front of the old parliament house.

  • Last Sunday, on May 28th, to honor the new parliament building, the Ministry of Finance came up with a Rs.75 coin denomination coin. 

  • As per the Department of Economic Affairs under the Union Ministry, the front of the coin will possess ‘Ashoka Pillar’, the Lion Capital, in the center with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ engraved below. 

  • The Ashoka Pillar imprinted in the coin will be bordered by the word ‘Bharat’ in Devanagari script on the left edge and the word ‘India’ in English on the right edge.

Is this Currency designed for general usage?

  • Commemorative coins are often produced in honor of noteworthy events and include distinctive designs which represent the occasion. 

  • These are not for general use. According to a Finance Ministry official, these commemorative coins are unable to be used for operations.

  • Since 1964, over 150 coins of this kind have been produced. These coins have exceptional value among coin collectors and are prized antiques.

  • Metals used to make these coins are composed of a quaternary alloy of 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel & 5% Zinc, as per the earlier statement of the Finance Ministry.

  • As mentioned before, the market price of this coin is not yet revealed by the government but the material cost can give you an idea. 

  • As per Yogesh Singhal, the president of the Bullion Jewellers Association, the material used for this coin alone costs a minimum of INR 1,300.
