Sri Lanka's Niroshan Dickwella Banned From Cricket Over Anti-Doping Violation In LPL 2024

Niroshan Dickwella born on 23 June 1993, is a Sri Lankan Wicket-Batter and he is the talk of the town. He has been suspended from all formats of Cricket after he was accused and found guilty in an Anti-Doping Violation Case. 

What is an Anti-Doping Violation?

Under the strict liability rule, an anti-doping violation happens whenever a banned substance (like Cocaine) is found in an Athlete’s bodily Specimen. This violation occurs even though the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a banned substance or was negligent or at fault. 

Recently, Niroshan Dickwella of the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team was suspended for the same case of anti-doping violations. This Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batter was alleged under an anti-doping rule violation after the Lanka Premier League (LPA) 2024.

Niroshan Dickwella was banned just after he tested positive for Cocaine. The test was conducted by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency during the finals of the LPL 2024 tournament. It was clear that the conclusion of the reports confirm the allegation. His suspension is not yet officially announced but it is expected soon. 

He was earlier banned for n year in 2021 for breaking the agreement of COVID-19 protocols while he was on tour with the team in the UK. Currently, he is stuck in this Anti-Doping violation case.

Dickwella freshly captained Galle Marvels in the LPL (Lanka Premier League), which was a mixed tournament. In 10 innings of this tournament, Dickwella aggressively performed and collected 184 runs with a strike rate of 153.33. In the final of the match, he was unable to perform well and scored only 5 runs off 8 balls and his team lost against Jaffna Kings. 

He internationally appeared in a Test Match in 2023 and this was his last white-ball game for Sri Lanka in 2022. In his career span, Dickwella collected 2,757 runs in Tests, 480 runs in T20Is, and 1,604 runs in ODIs. He has served as the captain of the national team.
