Why LSG Paid Big Money For Pooran In IPL Auction | TATA IPL

The Lucknow SuperGiants team is the talk of the town after last year's auction as they have paid a great amount to avail benefit from the services of Nicholas Pooran, who is the Wicket-Keeper and batsman of the West Indies team. The LSG has paid a huge amount of 16 Crores during the auction held to finalize the teams for IPL 2023.

The IPL auction occurred last year in 2022 and brought a lot of changes in the players of all teams. The IPL is scheduled to start by mid-of-march,2023 and is expected to end by June 1st, 2023. 

The Lucknow SuperGiants Team

The LSG, an acronym for Lucknow SuperGiants, a recently added IPL teams list along with Gujarat Titans. Lucknow SuperGiants represent Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh as a team. 

This team was formed in the year 2021.

Owner of the Team - Sanjeev Goenka.

Mentor of the Team - Gautam Gambhir.

Coach of the Team - Andy Flower.

This News of LSG paying an enormous amount for the player Nicholas Pooran has become a fuss around as the performance of Nicholas Pooran in the past was not much impressive. The consistency in his performance was seen to be missing in the previous IPL’s played by him. Pooran has become the most expensive player of West Indies after this IPL 2022 auction for IPL 2023 tournament.

Pooran in 2022 has played a total of 14 IPL matches with a comprehensive score of 306 in 13 Innings. Nicholas Pooran has zero IPL centuries, 2 IPL half centuries and 30+ score 4 times. His highest score in IPL is only 64 an heis strike rate is of 144.3 with average of 38.25 in 212 IPL Balls.

Gautam Gambhir Explains Why LSG Paid huge amount

The mentor of the LSG team, Gautam Gambhir, later clarified the reason to take this decision of paying a big amount to take services from Nicholas Pooran. Gautam shred his perspective on JioCinema : 

“I don't look at the last season. I look at the player's ability and impact. This tournament is not about scoring 500-600 runs. That player can win you 2-3 matches in a season, and he has age on his side. If you can get such a player, you try your best to build your team around him,” 

Gambhir further added:

“I'm not only looking forward to this season, he also provides us longevity. Very few players in that age bracket (27-28) have that ability. Pooran will continue to get better as he plays. I always believe that records only make headlines but impact wins you the tournament,” .
