Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: India Beats West Indies by 20 Runs in Warm-up Match; Australia, New Zealand Register Wins

The Women India recently defeated the Women West Indies with a 20-run margin in a warm-up match. With the support of Jemimah Rodrigues, who smashed a fifty and gave a brilliant bowling performance, India defeated the West Indies in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up game scheduled in Dubai on 29th September (Sunday).

W-India Won T20 Warm-Up Game Against W-West Indies

On 29th September (Sunday), Jemimah Rodrigues from the Indian side played outstandingly against the West Indian side in a Women’s T20 Women’s WC 2024 match. She smashed a half-century and her superb bowling performance supported Women India to beat Women West Indies by 20 runs in Dubai. 

Women India Performance

Initially, the Indian side struggled as the best batswomen - Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Harmanpreet Kaur lost their wickets earlier than expected. Harley Matthews from West Indies took 4 wickets (including two from the mentioned names) and released 17 runs. This left India with 23 runs for 3 wickets. 

Later when Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia (scored 24 runs) made 50 runs together. Hayley Kristen Matthews took the wicket of Bhatia afterward. Jemimah Rodrigues built a great score of 52 but was run out eventually. The Indian side ended up making 141 runs for 8 wickets. 

Women West Indies Performance

The West Indies team gave a weak start. Matthews was bowled out on Zero after playing 5 balls. The team was at a score of 13 runs and 3 wickets initially. Afterward, Shemaine Campbell and Chinelle Henry came to the field and scored 20 and 59 runs respectively. The latter was not out. This duo lifted the team on 57 runs for the 4th wicket.

Deepti Sharma from India took 2 wickets and released 11 runs after Campbell’s wicket. The team ended with a 121-run score for 8 wickets.

On 30th September (Monday), Sri Lanka Women won the match against the Scotland Women by 5 wickets with 27 balls remaining.
